Falsos feminismos, 2019. |
The photograph captures the image of a performance intended to be a photographic piece where the issue of gender equality policies and their lack of effectiveness is addressed. The topic is especially relevant to me, given my interest in issues related to identity, gender, and the inequalities between men and women that occur in patriarchal society. The work proposes a reflection on the poor application of equality policies within the business world and the glass ceiling that separates women from positions of power. In Spain, in the last twelve years, since the Organic Law 3/2007, of March 22, for the effective equality of women and men, was published, the reality is far from those legislative purposes that sought to address the existing inequality, but It has served to place the flagrant situation at the center of the social debate. This organic law sought to address the existing gap not only in public organizations, but in any other social sphere, emphasizing private companies and within them, their boards of directors. Furthermore, its General Principles established the obligation for the Government to prepare a periodic report on all of its actions in relation to the effectiveness of the principle of equality between women and men, as well as the creation of strategic plans for equal opportunities. So it was not only a matter of creating standards that promoted equal opportunities, but given the social difficulties that their application presented, this report was especially relevant to observe the shortcomings. At the international level, UN Women prepared the report Making promises come true in 2018: Gender equality in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which highlighted the importance of gender-sensitive policies, programs and investments as basis for the development and progress of societies. In this way, we observe that, although legislation on equality exists, de jure, its de facto application is very different and on numerous occasions businessmen and political leaders disguise themselves as feminism because the regulations require it, while their business actions and governments continue without evolving. For their part, current feminist movements continue to demand at an international level a real parity between genders and that women's rights are considered unappealable human rights. Starting from this sociopolitical context, I have created the work that addresses how political and business power dominated by men creates a glass ceiling for women, while the same patriarchal power that does not allow them to advance is disguised as feminism. while continuing to impose its self-established privileges to the detriment of global social benefit. The people who have participated in the taking of the photograph belong in their working lives to the groups on which I have proposed the reflection. The man works in an official body of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country directing a work group, and the woman, although she currently works autonomously in her medical office, for a long time did so in the Ministry of Health of Peru. In both cases, they wanted to participate in the project in order to delve into the reflection raised on equality policies, their real application and their desired evolution. |
