Muses machine, 2021. | |||||
* It is essential to use a computer or a device that has a keyboard for the muses machine to work. |

This work allows you to create musical compositions while displaying different objects and geometric figures on the screen based on the three musical scales that I include on the keyboard. In addition to rhythms, sounds and musical variations, which I created expressly for the muses machine with a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-380 piano and the Logic Pro X that appear on the screen when they are typed while we listen to a person read them aloud. But even before being able to access the machine, when the little green flag is pressed, a descent of words begins through the center of the stage, while a male voice reads them to us between sounds of suspense, inviting us to press any key to begin. to create. Specifically, he says the following: Press any key to boot the muses machine. And from there, whoever approaches the machine of the muses, what they have in their hands is the ability to press the keys that most attract them at that moment, and with this they will be able to build different results. You can listen to musical notes, either individually, or in the form of variations of the aforementioned notes, all in three scales, one that will produce, in addition to the individual sound of the note, some colored circles in the center of the stage, in which the colors correspond to the scale of notes and the chromaticism of the rainbow; another that is accompanied by colored blocks, also linked to the note in question, and that with different random sizes slide across the screen from a random origin and to a random destination at the bottom of the screen; and a third in which the sound variations are accompanied by the drawing of colored polygons in a random way. You can also press some keys that simply incorporate different rhythms into the creation, or even the space bar, which will produce the draft of the polygons that could be on the screen. The keys that produce the different fragments of Jane Austen's text are different from those that generate sounds, and if the sequence were typed in the proper order, something that the viewer does not know because what is intended is for them to let their spontaneity and creativity fly. and his research capacity, we could read and listen to the complete fragment, which goes like this: I cannot fix / on the hour, / or the spot / or the look / or the words / which laid in foundation. / It is too long ago / I was in the middle / before / I knew / that / I had begun. Each of the fragments of these words by Jane Austen are written in different fonts and appear at the top of the stage and slide until they disappear in the background while a female voice reads their content aloud to us. I have chosen this phrase because many times, when you are in a creative process, the inspiration is not outside, but is already inside you and has already made a path to create something at the moment you realize it. that that has happened. The idea behind the entire project is to create a machine of the muses that allows us to test, investigate, seek inspiration, but that does not lead us so much to a specific work, but rather the work is created from the interaction of whoever clicks the keys, but also all the elements that appear on the screen are ephemeral in themselves, they last a while, and then they disappear, either because they are erased (the polygons), because they are hidden (the blocks and circles) or because they slide until they disappear into the background of the stage (the words). In this way, the idea of creation is reinforced, of being a space for inspiration and not so much an element to create a work that remains, but at the same time it allows this experimentation to play with the surprise of whoever handles the computer, with its capacity by heart, with its spirit of inquiry and with its more or less adventurous character. |
